The Seven Lakes Route is one of Argentina’s most iconic scenic drives. This approximately 110-km route follows National Route 40 between San Martín de los Andes and Villa La Angostura, in the province of Neuquén, passing through Lanín and Nahuel Huapi National Parks. Along the way, you’ll pass a succession of crystal-clear lakes with shades of turquoise and deep blue—Lácar, Machónico, Falkner, Villarino, Escondido, Espejo, and Correntoso—surrounded by Andean forests of coihue and lenga trees, waterfalls, and snow-capped peaks. The route is fully paved, suitable for cars and motorcycles, and can be enjoyed in a single day with strategic stops. The best time to visit is from November through April.
