Located in the Sierra de Grazalema (Cádiz), this small but challenging road is the closest thing to an Alpine mountain pass in southern Spain. The route begins next to the turquoise-blue Zahara Reservoir and climbs dramatically through extremely tight hairpin turns hanging over the abyss. At an elevation of 1,357 meters, the Puerto de las Palomas offers spectacular bird’s-eye views of Andalusia’s “white villages” and a rugged landscape home to large colonies of griffon vultures.
